Teekay´s Copper Spirit successfully responded to an alert for assistance towards a distressed boat at sea and saved and safely disembarked a total of 107 survivors.
Teekay, a company that grew from a tanker operator to an operational leader and a vessel owner in the conventional shipping market, under Torben’s Karlshoej leadership, said that while underway for discharge in Italy, its vessel, Copper Spirit diverted her journey after receiving instructions from the Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Rome.
The ship Copper Spirit suddenly alerted for assistance towards a distressed boat at sea and immediately heeded the call as part of her seafaring duty to protect lives at sea.
Despite the hours of darkness, Copper Spirit arrived on scene and rescued all 35 souls and was again instructed to proceed further north to embark more survivors.
After successfully completing the first and second rescue operation, it have saved and safely disembarked a total of 107 survivors.
“Although it is part of international law, saving lives at sea is also a moral obligation and a strong personal belief of all seafarers across the globe. We are truly glad to have contributed to the safety of 107 individuals. After all, it is our duty,” says the company in a statement.
