The damage from the contamination of the Buzky Estuary with sunflower oil as a result of a Russian drone attack on the Mykolaiv port storage terminal, amounts to almost 40 billion Ukrainian Hryvnia, as the Ukrainian South-Western District State Environmental Inspection and ukrinform reports (www.ukrinform.net).

As a result of a strike by Russian drones at Mykolaiv Port on October 16, 2022, the tanks of EVERY LLC, one of the leading exporters of sunflower oil, were damaged. From the damaged tanks, oil got into the water area of the Buzky Estuary, polluting an area of 750 square meters.

As noted by the authorities of Ukraine, 676 cubic meters of pollutants were collected from the water surface.

Ukrainian inspectors, who selected water samples for laboratory research, found that the damages caused by pollution amount to 39,928,500,000 million Ukrainian Hryvnia.

Also affected by sunflower oil contamination was a land plot of almost 550 square meters, causing an estimated damage of 1.6 million Ukrainian Hryvnia.

“The damage caused to the environment as a result of vegetable oil pollution of the Buzky Estuary and land areas amounts to 39.9 billion UAH. On October 16, 2022, as a result of the drone attack, the tanks of EVERY LLC were damaged, one of the leading exporters of sunflower oil of Ukraine in Nikolaev. The pollution area was about 750 square meters. 675,8 cubic meters of pollutant were collected from the surface of the water,” as the Ukrainian South-Western District State Environmental Inspection authority says, adding that the amount of loss is 39 928,5 million UAH.

The calculation was carried out on the basis of “Methods for determining the extent of damage caused to the land, grounds as a result of emergencies and / or armed aggression and combat during martial law,” approved by the order of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
