Sweden´s Ektank AB has sealed a deal to become a partner and shareholder in IceChem Tankers. The two companies have signed a letter of intent which brings the two parties together as they “match perfectly” in terms of the philosophy and the overall strategy.

The whole procedure depends on the regulatory and documentational process that is ongoing and is expected to be completed within few months.

As a new partner in IceChem Tankers, Ektank bring +50 years of expertise in particularly the Northwest European and Baltic market segments, which perfectly complements IceChem Tankers’ market leading presence in the Transatlantic oil and chemical trade, especially in and out of the Great Lakes, as well as its European CPP trade.

The IceChem team will join Mr. Jonas Gustafsson who will transfer from Ektank’s chartering department and take up the role as Senior Chartering Manager with IceChem Tankers in Copenhagen with immediate effect.

Furthermore, all contractual obligations entered into on Ektank vessels “will be fully honored,” as Ektank reassures, for the duration of those commitments, after which the vessels will enter the IceChem Pool trade. The first vessel, m.t. EKEN, will join with immediate effect.

The shipping company Ektank AB issued a statement mentioning that the “founding partners of IceChem Tankers and the new partner Ektank will fully cooperate on the technical management side to ensure continuation of the highest quality and performance of all ships in the IceChem Tankers fleet, and compliance with all regulations and targets for reduction of emissions.”

The company noted a commitment in the development of the ship of the future in IceChem Tankers’ market segment, combining the vast experience of both the Ektank and the founding partners organizations in developing and bringing to market high spec newbuildings.
