Milan-based Prysmian Group, a specialist in energy and telecoms cable systems, has announced that with the final pull in, the HVDC submarine cable laying of the Crete – Attica submarine power interconnection in Greece, has been completed.

The 500 kV submarine cable system will allow the integration of the island into the Greek electricity transmission system.

The vessel ‘Leonardo da Vinci’ laid the 13,500-tonne power cable reaching peaks of maximum depth of 1,200 meters.

As the company says, “this achievement confirms the successful and continued relationship with Ariadne Interconnection, a company fully owned by IPTO-Independent Power Transmission Operator, the transmission system operator for Greece’s power grid”.
