Yemeni Houthi’s claim that they have targeted the American aircraft carrier, the USS Harry S. Truman, in the northern part of the Red Sea.
The Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the attack was carried out using two winged missiles and four drones. The group claims that the operation thwarted a planned U.S. attack on Yemen.
The Houthi representative Saree claimed that the attack occurred when American forces were preparing for a major raid on Yemen. According to him, the operation thwarted the planned U.S. air force attack.
He also said the Yemeni armed forces carried out two military operations, the first of which targeted a military target linked to Israel with two drones.
The other operation targeted a “vital target”, as he said, linked to Israel in Ashkelon with a drone.
The U.S. Central Command did not confirm the information about the attack on the USS Harry S. Truman and instead said that U.S. forces conducted operations in Iraq and Syria, between December 30 and January 6, in support of the ongoing Defeat ISIS (D-ISIS) campaign.
In a short statement in the social media channels, the U.S. Central Command also said yesterday that “the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) operates in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, conducting routine flight operations.”
From December 30 to January 6, Centcom and Iraqi forces conducted multiple strikes in the Hamrin mountains of Iraq, targeting known ISIS locations.
Furthermore, Centcom reported that from January 2 to January 3, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), enabled by Centcom forces, conducted a D-ISIS operation near Dayr az-Zawr, Syria, resulting in the capture of an ISIS attack cell leader.
“The enduring defeat of ISIS is a global effort that relies on our Coalition, allies, and partners,” said Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, Centcom Commander.
