Italy will receive 9.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan in 2024, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy said.
“Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister of Environment and Energy Security of Italy in Milan. The sides discussed a broad range of cooperation in the energy sector and within the Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of COP29 and Italy’s G7,” the ministry noted.
The ministry said Italy had so far received 30 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas out of 37.9 bcm supplied to Europe via the TAP.
“The fact that Italy is the main trading partner of Azerbaijan, that more than 30 bcm out of 37.9 bcm of gas supplied to Europe have been transported to this country, and that Azerbaijan is among the top three in the gas supply of Italy were noted as positive points,” it added.
In the discussions it was highlighted the fact that gas supplies to Italy are projected at 9.6 bcm this year.
As the two sides said, the expansion of TAP’s transmission capacity by 1.2 bcm from 2026 will strengthen their cooperation on energy security and decarbonization.
The cooperation with Ansaldo Energia on the supply of 1280 MW power plant and substations in the liberated territories with equipment was also discussed and prospects for the supply of renewable energy were assessed.
Italy’s interest in supplying green energy from Azerbaijan through the Caspian-Black Sea-European Green Energy Corridor was expressed.
