Russia has no warships deployed in the Black Sea at present, Ukraine’s Navy reported. As of 07:00 on Tuesday, May 7, there are no Russian warships deployed in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

Ukraine’s military didn’t detect Russian warships in the Black and Azov Seas also on Monday morning. “In the Black and Azov Seas [the] enemy ships are missing,” the press service of the Ukrainian Naval Forces said.

Kyiv has targeted Russia’s Black Sea Fleet throughout President Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion of the country, which began in February 2022.

Ukraine has claimed responsibility for a serious fire aboard a Russian warship on April 7. A fire broke out on the Russian Serpukhov small missile ship, based in the city of Baltiysk, the Kaliningrad exclave, as the national news agency of Ukraine, Ukrinform reported.

The report was confirmed by Ukraine’s main directorate of intelligence of the Ministry of Defence which has claimed responsibility for a serious fire aboard the Russian warship.

Due to a fire inside the ship, its communication and automation equipment was completely destroyed.

On March 23, in Crimea, Ukrainian forces also attacked the facilities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. In particular, they hit the 13th shipyard of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, where, among other things, the Yamal landing ship was moored.

The extent of the damage was not immediately clear. However, the Ukrainian ministry confirmed that the attack was “critical”.

Russia is curtailing its operations and tries to avoid further losses following successful Ukrainian drone and cruise missile strikes.
