Celsius confirms LNG carrier order and charter to Japanese JERA

Denmark’s ship owning company Celsius Shipping has confirmed yesterday a new LNG carrier order as its ambitions expand.

The Hellerup-based owner said it has ordered its 21st 180,000 cbm LNG carrier. The company didn’t disclose the shipyard’s identity, or any financial details about the order.

The vessel is slated to be delivered in 2027 and upon delivery it will be chartered for a long-term period to the Japanese energy company JERA.

“Celsius is delighted to announce the order of our 21st 180,000 CBM LNG carrier, which will deliver in 2027 and be employed on long term charter to Japanese Energy Company, JERA Co., Inc.,” Celsius said on Wednesday.

The new vessel design will be equipped with WIN-GD’s latest X-DF 2.2 propulsion system, Celsius noted, “offering the industry low fuel consumption and emissions per unit freight.”

Celsius’ fleet spans across various asset segments servicing the global maritime industry.

Celsius currently has a fleet of 36 vessels spanning across LNG carriers, chemical tankers, product tankers as well as container feeders.

The company’s fleet consists of 36 vessels, of which 25 are on the water and 11 under construction.

According to the company’s fleet data 11 LNG carriers, with a capacity of 180,000 CBM, are under construction with expected delivery in 2025, 2026 and 2027. The orders were placed in Samsung HI and CMHI shipyards.
