The Vietnamese shipowner Hoa Phat Shipping Joint Stock Company (Hoa Phat) has signed a contract on September 28 with the local shipbuilder Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Company (Nam Trieu) for the construction of a new 65,000-dwt cargo vessel.
The vessel – with designated building number S650-01 – will have an overall length of 199m, a design length of 195.3m, a beam of 32m, a moulded depth of 19m, and a deadweight capacity of 65,000 metric tons.
Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Company is expected to complete and deliver the vessel to Hoa Phat Shipping in 2028, the shipowner said in a statement.
Hoa Phat said that it is investing in the new vessel primarily to transport raw materials for the Group’s steel production.
The company currently operates a fleet that includes large oceangoing vessels used to transport raw materials for steel production and domestic cargo vessels that carry finished steel products.
