The Faroe Island-based Smyril Line has in their social media announced that it has taken delivery of its new Ro-Ro freight vessel Skipanes from the CIMC Raffles shipyard in Yantai, China.
Smyril Line signed a contract with CIMC Raffles in 2024 for two 3300 lane-meter methanol-ready Ro-Ro vessels.
The Ro-Ro vessel is developed jointly by Smyril Line and the Danish naval architecture firm Knud E. Hansen.
The vessel type has an overall length of 189.5 meters and is designed and built to methanol-ready standards.
Jens Meinhard Rasmussen, CEO of Smyril Line, says that “We are very pleased to have taken delivery of Skipanes, which will strengthen our freight services in the North Atlantic. This marks a milestone in the company’s history and an important step in the development of our fleet.”
