Ukraine claims it’s behind blaze on Russian warship at Kaliningrad base

Ukraine has claimed responsibility for a serious fire aboard a Russian warship on April 7. A fire broke out on the Russian Serpukhov small missile ship, based in the city of Baltiysk, the Kaliningrad exclave, as the national news agency of Ukraine, Ukrinform reported.

The report was confirmed by Ukraine’s main directorate of intelligence of the Ministry of Defence which has claimed responsibility for a serious fire aboard the Russian warship.

Due to a fire inside the ship, its communication and automation equipment was completely destroyed.

“The fire inside the missile ship completely destroyed its communication and automation systems,” the statement reads.

The incident put the ship out of service, according to the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry.

This is about Project 21631 Buyan-M project small missile ship, launched by Russia in 2015.

According to the intelligence agency, the incident occurred on Sunday, April 7.

As it is furthermore reported, it will take a long time to restore Serpukhov’s combat capability. Military intelligence in Kyiv posted a video on its website earlier showing flames erupting aboard a vessel.

Russian sources have not confirmed the attack, whilst the claim of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry could not be confirmed.

It is worth noting that the announcement from the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine is quite intriguing: “Thunder knows no bounds. To be continued.”
