Ukraine hit a Russian-owned container ship in the Black Sea and the infrastructure of three Russian oil refineries in Bashkortostan.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday the Russian container ship Yanina was sailing under the Russian flag and had a capacity of more than 100,000 tonnes.
According to Zelenskyy, middle-range strikes were carried out, with hits in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. The Russian container ship Yanina (2005-built), sailing under the Russian flag and with a capacity of more than 100,000 tons, was also hit.
“Thanks to the precision of our Defense Forces, it was sent to the bottom,” he said.
The vessel was reportedly sailing near Novorossiysk when it came under attack. Kyiv did not immediately release further operational details.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Ukrainian defenders who are bringing the war back to Russia and responding to its strikes against life, and emphasized: “Our targets are consistently defined facilities that sustain the war effort.”
The Moscow-based owner/ship manager ensured, through a post on Telegram, that the safety of navigation and its crews, as well as the interests of its customers and partners, remains its top priority.
Furthermore, Security Service of Ukraine units struck the infrastructure of three Russian oil refineries in Bashkortostan.
“The targets were nearly 1,600 kilometers away. These refineries process millions of tons of oil each year. Thank you for your precision,” the Ukrainian president stressed.
In a separate statement on Saturday, he also confirmed strikes in the Sea of Azov.
Zelenskyy later shared footage on his official social media account X showing the Greek 105,611-dwt crude oil tanker Bourda (built 2006), but he didn’t disclose any details.
Ukraine has targeted Russian-flagged vessels in the Black Sea throughout the nearly four-and-a-half-year war.
Russia has separately launched multiple strikes on Ukrainian port infrastructure and vessels approaching Ukrainian ports since the war began, attacks Kyiv has described as war crimes.
The recent strike on the container ship forms part of Ukraine’s broader campaign to disrupt Russian logistics and shipping in the Black Sea.
