The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) states in a social media post that on Sunday around 8PM-9PM has assisted in rescuing 71 passengers from the distressed RoRo/passenger vessel Mv “Reina Hosanna” which had an engine failure in the vicinity waters off Capul, Northern Samar, Philippines.
The RoPax Mv “Reina Hosanna” departed from the port Matnog, Sorsogon and was going to Allen, Northern Samar with 71 passengers and 30 rolling cargoes on board when the incident occurred, as the PCG informs.
Another RoRo/passenger vessel Mv “Reina Immaculada” tried to tow the distressed vessel that was dead on water without engine power, but the operation failed when the mooring line used during the towing operation broke.
The said incident of failed towing followed by strong currents which caused Mv “Reina Hosanna” to run aground along the shoreline of Barangay 1, Capul, Northern Samar, Philippines.
The Philippines Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Capul, LGU, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) immediately conducted a rescue operation to ensure the safety of passengers on board.
The distressed grounded vessel, including the rolling cargoes on board, will be further monitored by the Philippines Coast Guard personnel.
