The United Arab Emirates has halted all trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran until further notice amid regional escalations that it said are undermining regional and international peace and security.

The ministry of foreign affairs (MoFA) also rejected allegations regarding the status of the economic relationship between the UAE and the Islamic Republic of Iran, while reiterating the country’s commitment to dialogue, cooperation and regional integration.

Afra Al Hameli, Director of the Strategic Communications Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), underscored that all trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran have been halted until further notice.

No timeframe for the resumption of trade, commercial exchanges or financial transactions was provided in the statement.

Target to navigation

United Arab Emirates on Tuesday said its air defense systems detected a missile threat towards the country and urged the public to remain in a safe location and follow warnings and updates issued through official channels.

A second statement released later by the ministry of defence said two ballistic missiles launched from Iran “were targeting maritime navigation and fell into the sea.”

The ministry of defence reaffirmed its readiness to respond to any threats and to resolutely counter any attempts to undermine the security of the country or the safety of maritime navigation in the region.

UAE has accused Tehran of repeatedly targeting its ships in recent weeks. Several vessels belonging to UAE’s Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) have been attacked in the past few weeks.

ADNOC confirmed that one of its vessels was attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on the evening of Friday, August 14. Fortunately, there were no injuries, and the situation was brought under control.

This was the latest attack in the company’s vessels reported on August 15.

UAE halts Iran trade

Al Hameli reiterated the UAE’s commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and regional integration as essential means of advancing peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

He underscored that, in light of regional escalations that undermine regional and international peace and security, all trade, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran have been halted.

Al Hameli also emphasized that the UAE remains firmly committed to safeguarding the integrity of the international financial system, in line with international law and the highest global standards.
