The Kuala Lumpur stock-listed Perdana Petroleum Berhad (Perdana Petroleum), a provider of offshore marine support services for the oil and gas industry, has signed shipbuilding contracts with Aulong Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. in China for the construction of two anchor handling tug and supply (AHTS) vessels, according to a stock exchange filling.

Perdana Petroleum said the AHTS vessels will have bollard pull capacity of approximately 60 tonnes each.

The company disclosed that the total contract value is around US$34m.

The shipowner said the construction of the vessels will be funded through a combination of internal funds and bank borrowings. The vessels are expected to be delivered in stages during the third and fourth quarters of FY2028 and are intended primarily for deployment within the domestic and regional oil and gas markets.

Jamalludin Obeng, managing director of Perdana Petroleum, commented: “The construction of these two 60T AHTS vessels marks an important milestone in Perdana Petroleum’s fleet renewal programme, particularly as the Group’s last vessel newbuild exercise was undertaken in 2012.”

“Against the backdrop of improved market conditions, we believe this is the right time to modernise and progressively rejuvenate our fleet, ensuring that the Group remains well-positioned to support future operational requirements, enhance competitiveness and sustain long-term business growth,” he added.
